Hulbert man arrested for coercing cousin to drive him to Florida

HULBERT, MI— One person is in custody after he allegedly tried to kidnap a Chippewa County man last week.

Michigan State Police from the West Branch Post responded Saturday around 10:15 a.m. to a gas station in downstate Sterling. They say a 21-year-old Hulbert man called 911 to report that, after they consumed alcohol the previous evening, his cousin forced him to drive to Florida at knifepoint.

Once the suspect, Kamen Honeysette, 21, of Hulbert, fell asleep, the victim contacted a family member and police. No injuries were reported.

Honeysette was arrested for unlawful imprisonment and lodged at the Arenac County Jail. He was arraigned in 81st District Court in Standish on Monday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
