MSP investigating homicide at Chippewa Correctional Facility

KINCHELOE, MI— The Michigan Department of Corrections says an inmate death at the Chippewa Correctional Facility is a homicide.

Colton Mitchell, 36, died April 15 after an altercation in his assigned cell. Lifesaving measures were initiated but were unsuccessful, and Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

The MDOC says the incident is being investigated by Michigan State Police as a homicide.

No other details are available at this time.
