Gwinn man jailed for embezzling from Larry's Family Foods

Jonathan Barnes

GWINN, MI— A Gwinn man has been charged with embezzling funds from a Forsyth Township business.

Township Police say Jonathan Barnes, 22, was arraigned Monday on one count of embezzlement—between $20,000 and $50,000. He was investigated by the Forsyth Township Police Department when Larry’s Family Foods learned there was a large discrepancy in gift card sales. Barnes was employed at Larry’s at the time.

Police say they discovered Barnes had pre-loaded several thousand dollars onto gift cards, then used them at local businesses and online vendors for personal purchases.

He remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail. A preliminary hearing is set for July 15.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
