Man stabbed to death in Newberry, victim in custody

NEWBERRY, MI— A Newberry man is dead, following a stabbing incident in the city Sunday night.

Around 7:15 p.m., the Luce County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 300 block of John Street. Deputies made contact with a 47-year-old man who had been assaulted by a 21-year-old male suspect. A second victim, a 40-year-old man, was found in the yard of the residence with multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts at resuscitation, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 47-year-old victim was taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, also from Newberry, remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident.

The identities of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family and formal arraignment of the suspect.
