BARAGA, MI— An Illinois man has been arrested for committing various crimes across the U.P.
On July 14, Daniel Allard, 22, of Woodridge, IL fled from Gogebic County deputies when they tried to conduct a traffic stop and led them on a pursuit. Stop-sticks were set up on M-28 near Bergland, but the pursuit was terminated. When a trooper tried to remove the stop-sticks, Allard appeared, driving at a high rate of speed, and drove directly toward the trooper. The trooper ran down an embankment to escape, and Allard drove off.
On Thursday, MSP received information that Allard may be in L’Anse Township. They found he had broken into an unoccupied cabin near US-41 and Dog Patch Road. Allard cut a garden hose in an attempt to siphon gasoline from an ORV and broke a cabin window while entering. He also had a firearm. Troopers took him into custody and lodged him in the Baraga County Jail.
Allard is charged in Baraga County with first-degree home invasion, carrying a concealed weapon, and malicious destruction of property less than $200.
In Ontonagon County, he’s facing charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and resisting/obstructing an officer.
Additional charges are pending in Gogebic County.
