MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette Police Department has arrested a man for committing a serious assault and receiving and concealing stolen property.
Tuesday around 11:20 a.m., officers responded to the sidewalk in front of the Warming Center on the 400 block of West Washington Street. They say David Rodda, Jr., 47, attacked a 28-year-old subject who was on the sidewalk without provocation. Rodda left the scene, but was arrested a short time later near South Fourth and Washington Streets.
The victim was taken to UPHS-Marquette and remains hospitalized.
Rodda was also a suspect in the theft of an e-bike from the area of East Ohio and North Front Streets just prior to the assault. The bike was recovered from Rodda’s possession, along with a bicycle stolen from a different residence.
Rodda is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, ethnic intimidation, trespass, and receiving and concealing stolen property between $1,000 and $2,000. He’s also charged as a habitual offender.
