PARADISE, MI— A California man has been arrested in Chippewa County for stealing money from a Paradise hotel.
Last Thursday morning, Michigan State Police responded to the Paradise Lakefront Lodge for a theft that had happened the previous night. A man had allegedly unlawfully entered a hotel room and taken more than $3,000 in cash.
Surveillance footage identified the suspect as Antonio Murphy, 35, a California man working seasonally in the area. When the trooper located Murphy and told him he was under arrest, Murphy resisted and fled on foot. The trooper deployed a taser, which incapacitated Murphy and allowed the trooper to take him into custody.
Murphy is charged with first-degree home invasion, larceny in a building, and resisting/assaulting a police officer. He remains lodged in the Chippewa County Jail.
