CALUMET, MI— A Calumet man was arrested Tuesday, following an altercation
with police.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 4:45 a.m. to West Pine and 11th Streets on a report of a fire in the roadway and nails intentionally scattered across the street.
When they arrived, deputies tried to make contact with the resident of the house, but he locked himself in the garage and refused officers’ commands. The suspect exited the garage with a knife and entered the house, still refusing police commands. While inside the home, the suspect was seen pointing a firearm at a deputy.
Officers secured a perimeter around the house as they waited for search and arrest warrants. The Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team responded to the scene and executed a search warrant according to team protocol. At the same time, the suspect came out of his house and threw large knives at the MSP vehicle before going back inside.
A short while later, the suspect exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident. His name has not yet been released.
