MARQUETTE, MI— A suspicious device on Marquette’s Rock Street was rendered safe by the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad on Friday evening.
Around 11:45 a.m., the Marquette Police Department responded to a 911 open line where an altercation could be heard by the dispatcher. When officers arrived, they learned an assault had occurred. The suspect was also allegedly in possession of a device reported to be a pipe bomb.
The device was found outside the residence and the area was cordoned off. The MSP Bomb Squad was called up from Grayling to assess the device. Police also closed off the 500 block of Rock Street to vehicle and passenger traffic.
Around 5:45 p.m., the bomb squad arrived and rendered the device safe. There is no further information about whether the device was an explosive.
The suspect was arrested on charges of assault and sending an explosive with intent to frighten.
