HYDE, MI— One person died and another fled the scene, following a two-vehicle crash in Delta County Sunday.
Deputies were dispatched around 12:40 a.m. to the intersection of I Road and US-2 in Hyde on a report a vehicle was on fire and people were trapped.
They say a truck containing two people failed to stop at the intersection and hit a passenger car traveling on US-2. An 18-year-old female passenger in the truck was ejected and later found deceased. The 18-year-old male driver of the car was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the truck, later identified as Rielee Joseph Kobbs, 18, fled the scene on foot. After a multi-agency search, he was found around 8:40 a.m. under a bridge about two miles from the crash. He was treated for his injuries and lodged in the Delta County Jail.
Kobbs was arraigned Monday on charges of reckless driving causing death, reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function, and two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death.
Bond has been set at $250,000.00. The crash remains under investigation.
