LAC LA BELLE - A ski area known for extreme skiing has lost the use of a three-person lift. There's a crack in the gearbox, and a replacement won't be ready for a few months.
Mount Bohemia will have to rely only on a double chairlift on the other side of the mountain.
Mount Bohemia is located in Lac la Belle, near the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The 900-foot drop is the Midwest's steepest. There is no artificial snow or groomed runs, and beginners are discouraged from skiing there.
The owner tells the Daily Mining Gazette that he feels bad for skiers.
