LANSING, MI (AP)-- Michigan is starting to sell a new specialty license plate that features the Mackinac Bridge and the "Pure Michigan" tourism logo.
The plate is a fancier version than the standard license plate unveiled earlier in the year. It goes on sale Thursday, costs $5 more than a standard plate and replaces the Spectacular Peninsulas plate that was first issued in 2007.
Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says the bridge is worth signaling out as a tourist attraction and as an engineering feat. It's the third-longest suspension bridge in the world.
The old specialty plate shows the bridge but also includes the state's outline and a city-and-forest skyline.
No more of the old plates will be sold, but motorists can renew them for as long as they wish.
