New business locates in the Soo

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)--   A start-up company has chosen Sault Ste. Marie as the location of a plant that will manufacture a type of braided hose used in the auto industry.

AMI Hose, LLC says its $2.2 million operation will provide 40 jobs.

Company executives say they've improved the technology used to make the Teflon-coated, braided hose.

Local and state economic development officials negotiated a deal with AMI Hose that included loan guarantees, community development block grants for employee training and a 12-year exemption on personal property tax.

Kristen Claus of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corp. says the incentives helped lure the company to the Upper Peninsula despite competition from Indiana.
