HOUGHTON, MI— A long-vacant building in Houghton is getting an upgrade with help from the Michigan Strategic Fund.

Sisu Ventures, LLC plans to renovate a two-story building at 111 Shelden Avenue. When complete, it will have two residential units on the second floor and a retail space on the first floor.

The project is expected to generate a total capital investment of $943,000, supported by a $350,000 Michigan Community Revitalization Program performance-based grant.

City Manager Eric Waara says he’s looking forward to the reactivation of the building and the vibrancy it will bring to the downtown Houghton area.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
