State's February jobless rate edges up from January

MARQUETTE, MI— Michigan’s unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in February.

That’s up 0.2 percentage points from January’s 5.1 percent rate, but down 1.5 percent from February 2021.

The state Department of Technology, Management and Budget says seasonally unadjusted jobless rates increased in 12 of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas. The number of unemployed increased by about 10,000 from January to February.

Menominee County had the lowest jobless rate in the Upper Peninsula, at 4.4 percent. Marquette County’s unemployment rate was 5.7 percent, and Mackinac County had the highest unemployment rate in the state, at 18.1 percent.
