Negaunee superintendent retiring

NEGAUNEE, MI (AP)--   A longtime educator is retiring after 16 years leading the Negaunee Public Schools. 

Negaunee Superintendent Jim Derocher has worked in a number of school districts in the region.

The 1970 graduate of L'Anse High School earned his bachelor's and post-graduate degrees from Northern Michigan University. He taught and coached in L'Anse, then worked in the NICE Community School District and became Westwood High School assistant principal and athletic director from 1989-1994. He was the Brimley Public Schools superintendent from 1994-98 before becoming Negaunee superintendent in 1998.

Derocher ends his time as Negaunee superintendent in June.
