NMU enrollment dips

MARQUETTE, MI--   Northern Michigan University’s student numbers are down from last year.

The school’s 10th day enrollment report indicates a total headcount of 8,169 graduate and undergraduate students—down 423 students from 2014.

Administrators had projected a decrease in headcount, due to declining high school demographics and larger graduating classes in recent years.

NMU officials are trying to expand and improve recruitment efforts.  They include the Northern Promise, which lets U.P. high school students complete 12 to 15 credits before they graduate; a referral program for students and alumni; and open houses in the fall and winter semesters.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
