Operating engineers facility opens in Delta County

GLADSTONE, MI--   Operating Engineers Local 324 has opened a new, 11,000-square-foot training facility in Gladstone.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 5.5-acre facility for workers such as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, surveyors, and stationary engineers was held Friday. Officials say the site will offer classes this training season for in-demand jobs in the U.P. like mine safety, confined space training, and hazmat training.

The Gladstone facility will be used to train the next generation of operating engineers, offer continuing education for current operators, and conduct rescue training exercises with law enforcement and first responders.

OE324 also operates a Construction Career Center in Howell and a Stationary Engineer Education Center in Detroit.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
