LANSING, MI (AP)-- Term-limited Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is making jobs training his final priority through a proposal titled the "Marshall Plan for Talent."
The strategy aims to fund $100 million in high school programs that sustain collaboration between the education and business sectors namely for jobs in professional trade, information technology and other high-demand fields.
Michigan has been draining talent since the Great Recession and was recently passed over by Amazon for its second headquarters. Snyder believes more vocational training can fulfill demand for the more than 800,000 job openings expected through 2024.
Not all education experts agree. Some say the skillset gleaned from a four-year college education is still the best preparation for the workforce.
