Gwinn Schools implement new app for emergencies

GWINN, MI--   Gwinn Area Community Schools have a new type of panic button to push in case of emergencies.

RAVE is a cell phone app that allows staff members to connect immediately with 911 in the event of active shooters, fires, medical emergencies, and other situations.

The service gives emergency personnel and staff members greater detail about the location and type of emergency. Officials say the more detailed communication allows for a more immediate reaction internally.

Marquette County Central Dispatch has been working with Gwinn schools, which is the first district in the area to implement the application.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
