Banished terms list released

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   It’s a new year, which means Lake Superior State University has released a new list of banished words.

The 44th annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness includes “wheelhouse,” or area of expertise; “in the books,” which means finished; and “collusion,” as in two or more parties limiting competition by deception. Other unpopular terms were “eschew,” “thought leader,” and “optics.”

To see the entire banishment list go to lssu.edu/banished.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
