Absenteeism forces Ishpeming students online

Pew Research Center

ISHPEMING, MI— Students in the Ishpeming Public Schools district will transition to online instruction starting Friday.

Superintendent Carrie Meyer says the decision is due to sickness and a high level of absenteeism of both staff and students. Virtual learning will last through Monday, January 31st.

As of Wednesday, January 19th 15 employees and 41 students were confirmed to have active cases of COVID-19. That’s 7.47 percent of the school district’s population of 750.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
