Northern Michigan University alum appointed to university board

MARQUETTE, MI— Governor Whitmer has appointed NMU alumna Melissa Holmquist to the university’s Board of Trustees.

Holmquist is the President and CEO of Upper Peninsula Health Plan. She graduated Northern in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and went on to get her master’s in education-school counseling.

Holmquist fills a vacancy on the Board created by the resignation of former trustee Donna Murray-Brown. Her term expires December 31st, 2026.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
