Room and board to be more expensive at NMU next year

MARQUETTE, MI— NMU room and board rates for the coming school year are going up 3.4 percent.

On Friday the Board of Trustees approved the cost of a standard double room with the base required meal plan and comprehensive fee at $5,725 per semester, an increase of $189.

Trustees also approved seven new academic programs and authorized the sale of Kaye House, which has served as the NMU presidential residence since 1980—along with 1.4 acres of the nine-acre parcel it sits on along Center Street. The university will instead offer presidents a housing stipend.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
