DETROIT, MI (MPRN)— The Oxford Board of Education is delaying an investigation into last November’s deadly school shooting.
Board members say they want to wait for the end of lawsuits and criminal trials.
The shooting at Oxford High School left four students dead and seven others injured. One of the victim’s fathers, Buck Myre, says the district has not made any positive changes since then.
“What are they doing? They’re doing nothing.”
Myre is named in a lawsuit against Oxford High staff and the alleged shooter. So is Meghan Gregory, whose son survived the mass shooting. She says a third-party review would help alleviate her fears.
“We need to know that our other four kids are going to be safe going into that school.”
The Oxford school board declined assistance from the state’s top attorney. In response, Attorney General Dana Nessel says the move “sends a message that the board is more focused on limiting liability than responding to the loud outcry from the Oxford community.”
