NMU introduces first presidential finalist

MARQUETTE, MI— Residents and NMU’s campus community met the first of four presidential candidates at a reception Thursday night.

Debra S. Larson is currently provost and vice president of academic affairs at California State University, Chico. Before that, Larson served as dean of the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University and had a 17-year career at Northern Arizona University.

She grew up in Ishpeming and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan Tech.

Alumni and community receptions for the other three candidates take place next week. The names and bios of each candidate will be released 24 hours prior to their visit on the NMU Presidential Search Website.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
