MTU to create bachelor's of nursing degree

HOUGHTON, MI— Michigan Tech is aiming to help nursing students at Finlandia University by creating a baccalaureate nursing program.

A teach-out agreement between the two universities would allow FinnU students to continue their education at Tech. The Houghton school intends to bring the Finlandia curriculum and even nursing faculty over to Tech.

Both are working with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the Higher Learning Commission to determine the feasibility of program accreditation. The program could be up and running this fall.

Officials say the new baccalaureate would address a nursing shortage in the region.
