Marquette, MI - The Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education has voted to drop the high school’s nicknames. According to WLUC-TV, the vote was 4-3 to drop the Redmen and Redette nicknames. Monday’s meeting ran for over 4-hours giving the public a chance to comment on the issue. Board members who voted in favor were Vice President Glenn Sarka, Trustee Jennifer Klipp, Trustee Jennifer Ray and Trustee Cherryl Maddox-Smith. President Kirsten Cambensy, Secretary/Treasurer James Hewitt and Trustee Jason Zdunek voted against a change.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for August 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Kaufman Auditorium.
