Western UP MiSTEM director selected

HANCOCK, MI— The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity has hired a regional director for the Western Upper Peninsula MiSTEM Network.

Dr. Emily Geiger is a former professor at Finlandia University and Gogebic Community College. Her task will be advancing K-12 STEM education in Region 16 of the network.

Geiger will work with the Copper Country ISD and area school districts to coordinate and oversee the progress of STEM courses offered, aligned with the state’s goals. She will also work with community stakeholders to understand how the area’s goals and desires can also be met by furthering stem education in the copper country.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
