NMU makes list of best outdoors-related schools

Northern Michigan University

MARQUETTE, MI— Northern Michigan University has been selected one of the 12 Best U.S. Colleges and Universities to Get Outdoors and/or Pursue an Outdoor Career.

The list was posted by Outdoors.com, founded by adventurer and TV host Bear Grylls in partnership with the Nashville-based firm Savage Ventures.

The description says NMU is a short walk from Lake Superior and, “Besides having an outdoor recreation major, there are also great ways to get outdoors in the surrounding forest. For a longer weekend, you can drive about two-and-a-half hours to catch a ferry to Isle Royale National Park.”

Northern joins other outdoor-friendly schools like CU Boulder, the University of Miami, and Appalachian State University.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
