New president selected at LSSU

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— Lake Superior State University has a new president.

Dr. David Travis is Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geography from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in Geography from Indiana University.

LSSU officials say Travis is of Canadian lineage and has a long history of dedicated service and commitment to student development, rural areas, international engagement, community partnerships, and working in border communities.

Travis will begin his term on June 3rd. He assumes the presidency from current Interim President Dr. Lynn Gillette, who stepped in following the departure of Dr. Rodney Hanley last year.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
