Students to complete in construction, welding in Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, MI— The Upper Peninsula Construction Council is hosting the 2024 Construction and Welding Skills Challenge in Negaunee Friday.

The annual competition is offered to high school construction technology programs throughout the Upper Peninsula.

Nine teams from schools and career tech centers will construct a pre-designed structure and compete in coinciding aspects of Career and Technical Education. Forty-four students will participate on the welding side. A team trophy will be awarded to the best team and individual medals will be given to the top three teams.

The challenge takes place Friday at 9 a.m. at the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights Training Center in Negaunee.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
