Longtime educator and writer selected to give keynote at NMU graduation

MARQUETTE, MI— Educational innovator and author Milton Chen will deliver the keynote address at Northern Michigan University’s May 4th commencement ceremony.

He is senior fellow and executive director emeritus at the George Lucas Educational Foundation and once served as director of research at Sesame Workshop in New York.

As executive director of GLEF from 1998-2010, Chen led the development and expansion of the nonprofit’s Edutopia.org website on innovative

K-12 learning. At Sesame Workshop, he helped to develop Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and 3-2-1 Contact. Chen holds a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Harvard College and a doctorate in communication from Stanford.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
