Marquette, MI - The group Friends of the Shiras (SHY’-russ) Planetarium is launching the public phase of a fundraising campaign to upgrade the facility. More than 765-thousand dollars has been raised of the 1-million-dollar goal… and FOSP is reaching out to residents for help in raising the rest. The money will be used to purchase a ZEISS (zice) VELVET DUO projection system. Once the equipment is installed, Shiras will be one of only 30-ZEISS facilities in the country. It will also offer the highest quality digital star field in the Midwest. Other plans include new seating, lighting, and other technology. The final phase of the campaign kicks off at the Marquette Area Public Schools board meeting on Monday at 5-30 p-m in the Graveraet (grave-er-ETT’) cafeteria.

More information is at FRIENDS-OF-SHIRAS-PLANETARIUM-DOT-ORG.
