Four new members appointed to NMU, MTU boards

LANSING, MI— Governor Gretchen Whitmer has made appointments to the boards of two U.P. universities.

Venus Joy Brown of Detroit was appointed to the Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees. She’s vice president of human resources, organizational effectiveness, and employee experience for Assembly Global.

Lisa Fittante of Kingsford will also join the NMU Board of Trustees. She’s the owner of Fittante and Colenso, CPA, P.C.

The governor also appointed two people to the Michigan Tech Board of Trustees.

Steven Tomaszewski of Fenton is the global director of environmental strategies and operations at General Motors.

Dr. Shannon Dare Wayne of Milan is a global quality manager at Ford Motor Company, a City Council member and mayor pro tem for the City of Milan, and an adjunct professor at Lawrence Technological University.

All terms begin January 1, 2025 and expire December 31, 2032.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
