2024 list of Banished Words published

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— At the end of the day, one simple hack has the biggest impact: going to www.lssu.edu to see the 2024 Banished Words List.

Lake Superior State University publishes the annual list of words or phrases that are often misused, overused, or have lost their meaning over the past year.

More than 2,000 nominations were received from around the world in 2024. “Hack” was #1, followed by “impact” and “at the end of the day.” The top 10 finished with “rizz,” “slay,” “iconic,” “cringe-worthy,” “obsessed,” “side hustle,” and “wait for it.”

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
