MAPS Board seeks to fill vacancy

MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette Area Public Schools is looking to fill a vacancy on its Board of Education by appointment.

The applicant must be willing to serve until December 31, 2026, when a successor is elected or qualified.

Those interested should submit a statement of interest, work history, and volunteer or community service experience to the Superintendent's office no later than 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 6.

The board intends to select finalists at a meeting yet to be determined. Public interviews of the finalists and selection of the appointee will take place during the regular board meeting on February 17.

All applicants must be a resident of the school district.

The vacancy was created when board member Glenn Sarka passed away of cancer last week.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
