Distinguished Professor of the Year honor goes to MTU professor

HOUGHTON, MI— A Michigan Technological University professor is one of three recipients of the 2025 Michigan Distinguished Professor of the Year Award.

Dr. Jaclyn Johnson is a Teaching Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Tech officials say she is an exceptional educator who has taught thousands of engineers the art and joy of mechanical engineering.

Johnson has developed and implemented dynamic and interactive learning tools and approaches in her classes, the institution, and greater MTU community. They call Johnson “an extremely effective and innovative professor and role model.”

The awards are presented annually by the Michigan Association of State Universities to recognize outstanding contributions and dedication to the education of undergraduate students exhibited by the faculty from Michigan’s 15 public universities.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
