NMU student group to install free ADA library at Marquette playground

MARQUETTE, MI— A free library will be installed at Marquette’s Lower Harbor Inclusive Playground on Thursday.

The Northern Michigan Constructors student organization recently earned the "Project of the Year" award at NMU for building an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant library as a community service project.

The library’s one shelf will be wider than it is tall, enabling those with wheelchairs to access it. Handles also make it easier to open.

The library will be installed at 6:30 p.m. Thursday near a sidewalk between the playground and restroom building at the Lower Harbor.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
