Georgia firm to search for new NMU president

MARQUETTE, MI— NMU has hired a firm to search for a new university president.

Current President Brock Tessman is leaving at the end of June to become the head of Montana State University in Bozeman.

The Board of Trustees has retained the services of Parker Executive Search to lead a nation-wide search. Parker was also contracted by NMU for the same process in 2022 that resulted in Tessman’s appointment.

The firm is based in Atlanta, Ga. and has more than 30 years of experience in the field. Its president, Laurie Wilder, will lead the search on behalf of Northern.

Board Chair Steve Young says the board plans on naming an interim president and setting up a presidential search advisory committee in the near future, with the hope of having a new president selected by this fall.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
