Gavin Leach named NMU interim president

MARQUETTE, MI— An interim president has been appointed at Northern Michigan University.

Gavin Leach has served as NMU’s vice president for Finance and Administration for the past 18 years.

He was hired at Northern in 1989 and held the roles of senior accountant, budget analyst, senior financial analyst, budget director, acting chief financial officer, and associate vice president for Finance and Planning. Leach has worked directly with eight NMU presidents and more than 30 board members.

President Brock Tessman announced on April 7 that he will be leaving in June to become president of Montana State University. The NMU Board of Trustees has contracted with Parker Executive Search to identify potential candidates for his successor.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
