New room and board rates set at NMU for next academic year

MARQUETTE, MI— The NMU Board of Trustees approved next year’s room and board rates at a meeting on Friday.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, the cost of a standard double room with the base required meal plan and comprehensive fee will be $6,435 per semester, an increase of $242.

Residence halls and campus apartments are expected to be full in the fall. To address the housing need, two new apartment complexes capable of accommodating 386 students will be built at Northern. They will be on both sides of Presque Isle Avenue near Cohodas Hall.

The Board approved a $79 million general revenue bond authorization. Most will fund remaining design, development and construction costs for the new buildings. The remaining bond issuance will be applied to ongoing and planned academic and student building projects.

Construction is scheduled to begin this fall and be completed before the fall semester of 2027.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
