Newberry school locked down after parent acts "out of control"

NEWBERRY, MI— Tahquamenon Area Schools went on lockdown for the second time in two days Wednesday morning due to an “out of control” parent.

In a note to parents, Superintendent Shawn Tebo said the Newberry school was locked down for about 20 minutes. Law enforcement removed the parent and classes resumed as normal.

The incident happened just one day after a note containing a bomb threat shut the school down for several hours. Student lockers were searched and a bomb-sniffing dog was brought in. Nothing was found.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
