ESCANABA, MI— The State Board of Nursing has given its thumbs-up for Bay College to restart its Practical Nursing Program.
The program was suspended in February of 2025 when it was discovered it lacked proper accreditation. Bay officials say previous administrations failed to accommodate state mandated changes to the PN program in 2018.
In a press release, officials said the first new group of students will be admitted starting in mid-May. They said after the school “addressed several challenges,” the new program will equip students with the knowledge, hands-on experience, and clinical preparation required to become Licensed Practical Nurses.
“This approval represents an important step forward for our institution and the communities we serve,” said Bay College Dean of Allied Health and Nursing Dr. Patrick Reinhard. “By offering practical nursing education close to home, we are creating pathways to meaningful careers while addressing critical healthcare staffing needs across our region.”
Bay will release information regarding admission requirements, application timelines, financial aid opportunities, and upcoming information sessions in the coming months.
