Northern Michigan University to be closed Sunday and Monday

Northern Michigan University logo

MARQUETTE, MI— NMU will be closed Sunday and Monday, due to inclement weather. March 15th and 16th, 2026. The Library, Dome, PEIF, Fitzone, Berry Events Center, Health Center and Pharmacy are also closed.

When the university closes for inclement weather, it will now close for the entire day (including evening). If a decision is made to close campus and cancel classes, it is done prior to 6 a.m. If the university initially opens that day, but later needs to close for inclement weather, the university will close for the remainder of that day.

All classes, including online classes, will be canceled if the university closes for inclement weather. No assignments, including online assignments, will be due when the university is closed for inclement weather.

Events in the Northern Center will be held unless the event organizer cancels the event. The Northern Center will typically remain open even if the university closes for inclement weather.

On-campus events in buildings other than the Northern Center will be canceled unless the Chief of Police gives permission for an event to be held.

Permission to hold events that start at 5:00 p.m. or later must be requested by 12:00 noon. Event organizers should contact the Chief of Police at 906-227-2151 to request permission. The decision to hold events that start at 5:00 p.m. or later will be announced by 2:00 pm.

Athletic events may be held even if the university is closed. The Athletics Office and the Chief of Police will determine whether athletic events are canceled.

Non-credit continuing education events may be held depending on location and conditions. The Continuing Education Office and the Chief of Police will determine whether those events will be held.
