Suspected fentanyl found at Menominee school discovered to be ADHD meds

Menominee Public Schools

MENOMINEE, MI— A substance found at Menominee Elementary School Monday that was initially thought to be fentanyl turned out to be ADHD medication.

The Menominee Police Department says a baggie of an unknown substance was found and turned over to the School Resource Officer, who took it to the department for testing.

The 3rd - 5th grade hallway where the substance was discovered went into a “code yellow” lockdown. It was searched by officers and a K-9 and cleaned by janitorial staff.

Preliminary testing of the substance indicated that it was possibly fentanyl.

Review of camera footage led officials to a student. They and a parent confirmed the baggie was theirs.

The substance was taken Tuesday to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab, which identified it as Vyvanse, a Schedule II narcotic used for ADHD.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
