MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette resident has filed a petition to recall trademark attorney Margaret Brumm from the Marquette Board of Light and Power.
Nathan Joyal says Brumm trademarked the name “Marquette Sentinels” in an effort to force Marquette Area Public Schools to keep the former “Redmen” nickname. He says that represents a violation of her fiduciary duties to the public.
The Marquette County Election Commission will conduct a clarity hearing on the petition on June 12th.
That same day, the Commission will also consider recall language Brumm filed to recall two MAPS Board members.
It’s her second attempt to remove Jennifer Klipp and Jennifer Ray from the board. Brumm initiated the petition because Klipp and Ray voted to remove the “Redmen” nickname.
The commission denied the first recall petition—and Brumm’s appeal—in April.
