Status of MAPS board member recall uncertain

MARQUETTE, MI— An effort to recall two Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education members seems to have stalled.

Local patent attorney Margaret Brumm filed the recall against Jennifer Klipp and Jennifer Ray because they voted to replace the MSHS Redmen and Redettes nicknames with Sentinels.

Brumm needed to collect more than 3,600 signatures by August 2 to place the recall on the November ballot. Reports indicate she had collected 480 signatures by July 15.

The recall petition is valid for 180 days, or until December 10, but the signatures are valid for only 60 days. That means Brumm would have to collect signatures to recall Ray and Klipp again in order to place the issue on the May ballot.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
