Dickinson County Chair will not face recall election

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— A recall petition against the chair of the Dickinson County Board has failed. Dan Harrington of Breitung Township represents District 3.

The petition filed against him stated Harrington voted last year in favor of eliminating funding for the MSU Extension office, resulting in the loss of local 4-H, agricultural education, and community extension services.

A total number of 599 signatures were needed to trigger a recall election, or
25 percent of the votes cast in Harrington’s district for all candidates for the office of governor in the 2022 election. The Dickinson County Clerk says only 591 signatures were verified as valid.

Harrington has just over two years left in his term.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
