HANCOCK, MI— The Hancock Area District Library Special Project Fund reached its goal of raising $10,000 in less than two weeks.
The nonpartisan fund was created to cover the costs of bringing information about the library ballot question to voters. On November 3, voters in the City of Hancock and Hancock, Franklin, and Quincy townships will consider a millage to provide ongoing funding for the Hancock Area District Library.
If approved, the millage would support services like library staffing, after-school hours, and special reading programs.
The library has a contract with the Portage Lake District Library that ends in March.
If the millage doesn’t pass, the library would revert to operating as a school public library under a narrower scope of service. The endowment fund would continue to support Hancock Public Schools for the explicit purpose of operating the public school library.
